Well-known for his mobile, light refracting sculptures, Bill Wainwright has installed many large-scale public pieces in Boston and Cambridge as well as in other cities. Recent work, which the artist sees as light, delicately balanced plant forms, is fabricated from slender reeds, bamboo, and gossamer metallic fabric and is often as tall as 12 feet high. Seen outside, these kinetic pieces dance on points balanced by lead weights. and describe the air with lyrical lines and forms.
